The South Queensferry Branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club was formed in 1982 by a few keen local divers, and since then has grown to around 30 members with diverse underwater interests but with one thing in common - a love of diving and the furtherance of the sport.
MEMBERSHIP
Although the club is a branch of BSAC, and all training is carried out to the BSAC training scheme, membership is open to any diver with a recognised qualification from other agencies. However, only BSAC members can obtain qualifications from the club.
MEETINGS
Club Sessions are held on weekly in the pool at Leith Academy Edinburgh and afterwards in a local hostelry.
TRAINING
We normally start Pool training in October, and usually get Open Water Training started by Christmas.
EQUIPMENT
The club currently runs a well equipped 5.5m Northcraft RIB, and also has sufficient drysuits, cylinders, BC's, regulators and basic equipment for the use of trainees.
Dive Equipment can be hired at a very reasonable rate from the Club.
DIVING
Diving takes place most Sundays throughout the year to sites on the East and West coast of Scotland (weather permitting).
Dive Trips of longer duration (usually 2-4 days) are organised to places of interest in Scotland at intervals throughout the year, usually to Scapa Flow, Oban, Sound of Mull and the Summer Isles
Overseas expeditions are organised every year for suitably qualified divers.
In recent years we have been to the Red Sea, Malta and Menorca
SOCIAL
We meet monthly at the Oxford Bar in Edinburgh and at the Hawes Inn, South Queensferry.
Fundraising events are held throughout the year. These have ranged from Jumble Sales to Treasure Hunts to Sponsored Snorkels. Social Events such as Ceilidhs, Spanish Evenings, Barbecues, Annual Dinners and Christmas Parties have been organised in previous years, some to help club funds, others because they seem like a good idea at the time.
OTHER
For a number of years SQSAC has been associated with the 70 Wild Miles, an annual charity event based at Glencoe.
SQSAC is a small, friendly club with an excellent record for training, and we're sure you will enjoy it.
