In July, 3 of us (Nathan, Kirsty and Ross) joined a Conger Alley trip to the Summer Isles. Leaving Edinburgh’s thunderstorm behind we drove up to Camusnagaul (another Scottish town I can’t pronounce the name of) on Friday evening and after checking into the B&B and Ross setting up his tent headed down to the pub in Dundonnell to meet the rest of the Conger Alley group.
The first dive of the weekend was the Fairweather V – if you haven’t had the chance to dive this wee wreck its well worth the long trip. The wreck is intact (with riggings still in place) and upright, every inch is covered in life (mostly dead man fingers and Plumrose anemones) and fish every where on the Wreck.
The 2nd dive was another wreck. The Boston Stirling is a bit more broken up and is absolutely covered in kelp at the highest point. As we descended it looked more like a kelp covered pinnacle rather than a wreck. It was a nice little wreck to explore with the prop still in place and even a wash basin hidden among the wreckage.
With flat seas Sunday’s diving saw us at Conservation cave. This was a lovely open cave with Jewel Anemones scattered on the walls. Outside the cave we explored the boulders around the opening and finding a massive edible crab until it was time to surface. The other dive of the day was a pinnacle called 12 foot rock. This dive also had a bit of kelp but also had some nice walls to fin along
It was a great weekend and if you get the chance to dive here well worth the long drive. Richard at Creag Ard charters (www.creagardcharters.co.uk) was great and even took us mackerel fishing in the surface intervals. The boat was a Catamaran with heaps of space and the divers lift was being fitted the week after we were there.
